Web hosting is a service which allows me (or you) to publish my very own web page on my very own domain. For better understanding, it is a computer (server) that is (hopefully) running 24/7 and enabling your content to be available for everyone who is able to find it while browsing the web. Because my purpose is to earn some extra coins with my website I decided to purchase paid web hosting instead of some free options available online (like hubpages).

The important difference is that I can have my very own domain name http://www.passiveincomexperiment.com instead of let’s say http://www.hubpages.com/passiveincomexperiment. My own domain will in some way help me to stand out from the group of @gmail.com and @hotmail.com accounts and add value to my passive income experiment.

Of course there are many other advantages that I believe will help me generate more traffic on my web site and made my experiment more recognizable, but for now and for my current level of knowledge owning domain of my choice is big enough and satisfying advantage.

The downside of owning my own piece of internet is of course “the rent”, but as I mentioned before, my plan is to earn income from my page. In the early stage I hope I will manage to at least cover the web site related expenses.

While I was browsing the internet and typing different keyword phrases in my browser (like “best web hosting provider”, “cheap web hosting” and so on) I figured out the only relevant rule for choosing best hosting company: there is no such thing as universal rule for best hosting provider. The fact is that almost every provider offers some sort of free test period. If that is not an option they promise to return your money if you are not satisfied with their services. If you have the time and patience, you can try this way. Or you can, like me, endlessly read all the forums you can find, browse through different complaints about this and that, search for recommendations, compare providers with the help of numerous tables …

I advise you not to rely on all great positive recommendations about certain web hosting provider. Hosting provider affiliate is in fact one of the most lucrative sources of possible passive income, so it is logical that if you offer web hosting as an affiliate, you’ll write nice things about him.

In the end I came to the conclusion that more I read more time I loose which is causing the start of my passive income experiment project to move further and further away.
